Reading List

Maybe I should start by saying that there is more chaff than wheat out there - this is a list of books & articles that I've read so far that have been useful to a greater or lesser degree. If I read any that fall definitively into the chaff category, they won't be listed here!

 Books

  • Reverse Your Diabetes by Dr David Cavan. This was the first book I bought and the first to give me hope that although my condition is now life-long in the sense that if I go back to what I was doing before I will get what I had before, it wasn't inevitable that it would progress to needing a lot of medication and eventually lead to complications anyway.

  • The Obesity Code by Dr Jason Fung. I'm still only half way through this book but already can't recommend it enough. If you're interested in the science behind why LCHF (low carb, high fat) and IF (intermittent fasting) works, you'll find it here in a very accessible form.

  • The 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet by Dr Michael Moseley. I found this one when I was well down the road weight loss wise so I've taken the useful information from it but not followed the diet. There seems to be a lot of success with it though.

  • The Fast Diet by Dr Michael Moseley. Also known as the 5:2 diet. Useful for people who find the 800cals per day on the 8WBSD too limiting. Again, there's some useful information

  • New Atkins, New You by Dr Stephen Phinney, Dr Jeff Volek & Dr Eric Westman The Atkins Diet as a diet still isn't for me but the information has been useful and this new version has been updated to correct some of the advice that wasn't so good first time around. A lot of people are having success with it so if it would work for you, go for it.

  • Pure, White and Deadly by Dr John Yudkin. This was published in 1972 and a revised edition published in 1986. It shows that we knew back then, that sugar was the 'enemy' not the good fats but this message was beaten by propaganda from the HCLF (high carb low fat) school of thought. I'm not going to go into the whys and wherefores here or I'll run out of space and end up ranting and that's not what this blog is about. If you're interested enough to read these books and watch the you tube links you'll see for yourself anyway. The information in here is still very relevant today.
